I’ve been in the same field for about six years and I’m finally thinking about moving on. The problem is my CV. I haven’t touched it properly since my last job change, and when I opened it recently, it felt flat and cluttered. I’ve sent it to around 20 employers over the past few weeks and heard back from only two.



A colleague recommended I speak to aCV writing specialist rather than keep tweaking it myself. I’m tempted, but I’m also sceptical. Part of me wonders whether it’s just a fancy template with a price tag attached.



For anyone who has tried this, I’d love to know:



Did working with a specialist noticeably improve your interview rate?

How much of the process involved them asking about your achievements, versus just rewriting what you already had?

Is it worth it if you’re mid-career and not applying for senior roles?

How do you tell a genuine specialist from a template factory? What should I ask before paying?

How many revisions did you get, and was the turnaround reasonable?

Would you do it again, or did you feel you could have managed alone?



I’d also be interested in anything you did yourself first, such as tailoring for each job or adding numbers to your bullet points, since I’d like to improve what I can before spending money.



Any honest experiences, good or bad, would be really helpful.
