Is Changing Ascendancy Class Possible in POE 2 U4GM (4 อ่าน)

Path of Exile 2 gives you a way to rethink a character without throwing away hours of progress. If your current build no longer feels right, you can move to another Ascendancy within the same base class and keep your level, equipment, passive tree, and story progress. The process still takes planning, though. You will need the right Trial, enough gold, and a sensible reserve of POE 2 Currency for the gear changes that usually follow.

Know the Limits Before You Start

Ascendancy changes are flexible, but they are not completely open-ended. Your base class stays the same throughout the process. A Mercenary can move between the Ascendancies available to that class, for example, but cannot switch into a Witch or Warrior specialization. That restriction matters when you are planning a new build. Check the available options first, then compare their passive bonuses with the skills and equipment you already own. You may find that a small adjustment is enough, rather than a full rebuild.

Complete the Trial That Matches Your Progress

You cannot simply walk to an NPC and select a new Ascendancy whenever you feel like it. The game asks you to complete an appropriate Ascendancy Trial before the change becomes available. Depending on where your character is in the game, this may involve the Trial of Chaos or the Trial of the Sekhemas, which some older guides call the Trial of the Ascendant. The important detail is the number of Ascendancy points you have unlocked. A character with more points must usually complete a higher-tier version of the Trial, so check the requirement before spending time and resources on the run.

Use the Trial Reward Room Carefully

Once the Trial is complete, do not rush through the reward room. Speak with the Trial NPC and look for the option connected with changing your Ascendancy. The conversation lets you refund your current Ascendancy points, choose another specialization tied to your base class, and confirm the change after paying gold. This step is easy to miss because the room looks much like the place where you first unlocked your Ascendancy. If the option does not appear, make sure every allocated Ascendancy point has been refunded and that the Trial you completed matches your character's current progression.

Work Out the Cost Before Entering

Gold is the part that catches many players off guard. The refund price is linked to each allocated Ascendancy point, so the total can become sizeable on a well-developed character. Before you enter the Trial, visit the Hooded One or Doryani and open the passive respec interface. Hover over one allocated Ascendancy passive to see its refund price, then multiply that figure by the number of points you currently have assigned. It is only an estimate if the game applies different costs at different stages, but it gives you a useful target. Finishing a difficult Trial and then discovering that you cannot afford the change is a frustrating way to lose an evening.

Prepare the Build You Actually Want to Play

A new Ascendancy rarely works perfectly with the old setup. One specialization may favour critical strikes, while another asks for armour, elemental resistance, energy shield, minions, or a different damage type. Before confirming the switch, review your weapons, body armour, support gems, sockets, and passive tree. Put replacement pieces in your stash if you can. You may also need to adjust attributes or replace items with bonuses that no longer fit the build. Keep extra gold and trade resources available for crafting and upgrades. It is much easier to make the change when you can equip the new setup immediately, rather than spending several maps in a half-finished state.

Final Thoughts

Changing an Ascendancy in Path of Exile 2 is best treated as a planned rebuild, not a quick menu choice. Confirm the available specialization, complete the correct Trial, calculate the refund cost, and prepare the gear that supports your new direction. You will keep your character's level and wider progress, which makes experimenting far less painful than starting over. A little preparation also leaves more room for testing different playstyles, especially when a patch shifts which skills are popular. With enough gold, suitable equipment, and a reserve that can cover unexpected upgrades, you can make the transition smoothly while keeping cheap POE 2 Exalted Orbs available for the rest of the rebuild.
