I recently came across some old family photographs with faded colors, scratches, and blurry details. Are there AI tools that can restore this kind of image while preserving its original character instead of making it look like a completely different photograph?

My sister recently reminded me about a family picture where one relative wasnt present, and that gave me an excuse to test an AI image editing tool. I wasnt expecting anything particularly serious from it, so I picked two ordinary photos and began experimenting. The one I settled on was https://overchat.ai/image/add-person-to-photo, where I uploaded a clear picture of the person and then selected the family photo as the target scene. I specified that he should be standing toward the left side, next to another family member, with his body facing the camera. I noticed that giving a simple but precise description worked better than writing a long paragraph. The first generation already had the person in roughly the right place, although I wanted to adjust the composition slightly. After trying another version with a better-matched source photo, the result looked considerably more convincing. The lighting, perspective, and general proportions seemed to belong to the same photograph instead of looking like two separate images combined together. What I appreciated was the lack of complicated manual steps. I didnt need to spend an evening cutting around hair, adjusting colors, or trying to create believable shadows. It was mostly a matter of finding a suitable reference photo and giving the editor enough information about where the person should go.
